उर्दू शायरी में इश्क़ के बारे में ये और ऐसे कई शे’र मशहूर हैं मगर ऐसा नहीं है कि इश्क़ और आशिक़ की बरबादी के क़िस्से सिर्फ़ उर्दू शायरी तक महदूद रह गए हैं। हिंदुस्तान की और ज़बानों और इलाक़ों में भी देखा जाए तो पंजाब की तरफ़ हीर-राँझा, सोहनी-महीवाल, मिर्ज़ा-साहिबा और सस्सी-पुन्नू के क़िस्से हमें ख़ूब मिलते हैं जिन का असर बॉलीवुड में भी बहुत है।
Derived from its Arabic root Zimn, Tazmin literally means to join or include one thing in another, but in poetics, it means inserting the verses of another in one’s own poem. It’s a genre of poetry in which a poet draws upon a line, or a couplet, belonging to some other poet and adds to it a line of his own.
A part of India’s exquisite literature that has arguably been the closest to common people is Urdu poetry. So much so, that many of the couplets have become like idioms to us. But besides Ghazals and its Shers, Nazms, too are etched in our collective consciousness.
शायरी में अलग अलग थीम्स और उनसे जुड़े किरदार होते हैं जैसे इश्क़ की थीम है तो उसमें आशिक़ होगा, महबूब होगा, रक़ीब होगा, और कभी कभी उपदेश देने वाले का इज़ाफ़ा हो जाता है। इसी तरह लहरें और समंदर का ज़िक्र है तो नाख़ुदा होगा, हर ख़ास थीम के साथ उसके उतने ही ख़ास इस्तियारे या किरदार हैं।
Think, what first comes to your mind as you read a couplet? Its idea, image, eloquence, assonance, or something else? Barely are we drawn towards the sounds that envelope the syllables that we’re uttering.
