A relentless humanist, a hopeless romantic, and a heartbroken patriot, Faiz is everything that life can offer. He is no stranger to the festivities and griefs of the human. His oeuvre is the adjudicator of humanity. Faiz, to me, was the last humanist of the twentieth century who embraced everything human.
मैंने सुना है मेरे बाद कोई लफ़्ज़ों का ऐसा साहिर पैदा हुआ है , जिसे इश्क़ ने निकम्मा कर रखा था और ज़माने ने पागल क़रार दे रखा था, कोई ग़ालिब गुज़रा था , क्या था वो शख़्स? उस के बारे में मैं पहले ही कह दिया था कि उस्ताद मिला तो ठीक वर्ना मोहमल बकेगा।
मख़दूम मुहिउद्दीन के बारे में ख्वाज़ा अहमद अब्बास ने कहा था, “मख़दूम एक धधकती ज्वाला थे और ओस की ठंडी बूंदे भी। वे क्रांतिकारी छापामार की बंदूक थे और संगीतकार का सितार भी। वे बारूद की गंध थे और चमेली की महक भी।” जब वे लिखते हैं ‘याद के चाँद दिल में उतरते रहे…’ तो मुंबई की स्याह रात में सड़कों पर जलती स्ट्रीट लाइट और प्रतीक्षा की थकन लिए स्मिता एक कंट्रास्ट रचते हैं।
Mushaira (mehfil or bazm) is a gathering of the poets who write, recite and listen to poetry of one another written in Urdu language, with a participative and responsive audience. It is not a contest which has a winner in the end, but the poets simply read out their self-composed poems in their patented and individual styles, crafted in accordance with a specific metrical pattern and carrying a certain loftiness of thought.
बीते दिनों सोशल मीडिया पर घूम रही एक तस्वीर ने उन तमाम लोगों को परेशानी में डाल दिया था जो फ़ैज़ के चेहरे से तो वाक़िफ़ थे लेकिन फ़ैज़ के साथ तस्वीर में मौजूद उस स्त्री को नहीं पहचान पा रहे थे जो ग़ालिबन किसी मुशायरे के स्टेज पर बैठी फ़ैज़ की जलाई तीली से सिगरेट सुलगा रही है।
