दिल्ली वक़्त जितना ही पुराना शह्र है। इस शह्र के सब से पुराने आसार तक़रीबन 300 क़ब्ल-ए-मसीह के आस-पास के हैं। ये शह्र हमेशा से तहज़ीब, तरक़्क़ी और फ़ुनून-ए-लतीफ़ा का मर्कज़ रहा है। इसी लिए, जब हम तारीख़ के पन्ने पलटते हैं तो पाते हैं कि इस शह्र ने जितने आली-मर्तबत लोगों को अपनी तरफ़ खींचा, उतने ही हम्लावरों को भी।
A part of India’s exquisite literature that has arguably been the closest to common people is Urdu poetry. So much so, that many of the couplets have become like idioms to us. But besides Ghazals and its Shers, Nazms, too are etched in our collective consciousness.
हम मिर्ज़ा ग़ालिब की नसीहत पर अमल करते हुए भी अदब के मैदान में ख़ुद को बड़ा शायर बनाना चाहते थे कि ‘मिस्री की मक्खी बनो, शहद की मक्खी नहीं बनो’। मगर हमने ग़ौर नहीं किया कि ये जुमला किस तरह औरत दुश्मनी की रिवायत का बीज हमारे ज़हन में बो रहा है। हमें लगा कि अदब में बेहतरीन क़िस्म का शायर वही होता है, जो बदन की शायरी करता हो।
शायरी और अदब के चाहने वाले कभी भी एक ही शायर या अदीब को लेकर नहीं बैठते, ये तो मुमकिन है कि कोई एक अदीब उन्हें ज़ियादा पसंद हो, मगर ऐसा नहीं होता कि वो किसी और को न पढ़ें, मीर के आशिक़ ग़ालिब के भी दीवाने हो सकते हैं, जौन को चाहने वाले फ़ैज़ की नज़्में भी गुनगुनाते हुए मिल जाते हैं।
The term ‘Marsiya’ (elegy) is derived from Arabic word ‘risa’ which means lamentation of the dead person, weeping and wailing over the deceased. It existed in Iran as a well defined literary form, in pre-Islamic days. ‘Sog-e-Siyahwashan’ (mourning of Siyahwash, father of Kai Cyrus), ‘Marg-i-Zarir’ (the death of Zarir, brother of Gushtasp) and some others are still considered as legacy of ancient Persian literature.
